At the Seafood Expo Global event in Brussels, 4FISH, with its Rossimare brand, presented to various Italian and foreign participants, but above all to GDO buyers, the new antibiotic-free production specification that the Group has developed for giltheads and seabasses.
On this occasion, the independent certification body DNV-GL officially awarded NICCOLA ROSSI the certificate guaranteeing, for giltheads and seabasses raised in their farms with 4FISH feed, the absence of the use of antibiotics and/or chemotherapeutics throughout the breeding cycle.
This significant innovation, the first in Europe for the fish sector, immediately aroused much interest among the various operators present, as in recent years, cases of pathogenic bacteria resistant to antibiotic treatments in humans have been reported from various quarters.
In fact, at the end of the last century, worldwide, not only in Europe, in farms of animals destined for food production, there was indiscriminate use of antibiotics, now considered one of the main causes of antibiotic resistance.
This phenomenon is becoming more and more frequent, and infections are increasingly difficult to control, also because research is currently unable to provide more effective substances to control new pathologies. However, there is now a growing awareness among sector operators; in fact, for some species of animals (chicken and pig), some breeders have developed work protocols capable of ensuring the production of food without the use of antibiotics and/or chemotherapeutics for all or part of the antibiotic-free production cycle. The companies of the Rossi Group, always sensitive to these issues, have been oriented towards innovation for some years now, employing increasingly advanced technologies capable of improving breeding conditions and ensuring high “well-being” in fish.
All this has therefore made it possible to develop a technical-practical specification for the production of giltheads and seabasses raised with feed where the use of chemotherapeutic products is not foreseen.
Giltheads and seabasses raised with 4FISH feed are characterized by extremely high organoleptic qualities (tenderness, flavor, and consistency of the meat) and above all by a secure guarantee from a health perspective. In fact, the fish raised in this area enjoy exceptional environmental conditions and are fed with specially formulated diets developed and produced in our production plant.
This allows us to choose and use quality raw materials (herring meal and fish oil), which ensure a balanced intake of all essential nutrients necessary to guarantee better growth, well-being, and above all, quality of the fish raised.
In addition to the environment, food is another fundamental aspect that influences and characterizes the quality of the final product; being able to choose and directly control the raw materials used guarantees a safe product, rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, and above all in unsaturated fatty acids (EPA, DHA) essential for human health. Thanks to the high environmental quality of breeding and the excellent diets used, Rossimare is able to produce giltheads and seabasses at any time of the year, in all sizes necessary to meet the demands of national and European markets.
